Most to-do lists don’t fail because we’re lazy. They fail because they grow faster than we can finish them. Old ideas sit next to urgent bills, and everything looks equally important, so nothing does.
Lists collect three kinds of items: things you must do, things you might do, and things you’ll never do. Mixing them makes every glance at your list feel heavy.
Set a five-minute timer and write down everything on your mind: tasks, worries, ideas. Don’t sort yet. The goal is to get it out of your head and into one trusted inbox.
In deklutr, press ⌘ ⇧ A anywhere to drop a thought straight into Inbox.
Go through the list once and ask: will I really do this in the next month? If not, delete it or move it to an “Ideas” page. Be ruthless, a short list is a usable list.
Give each area of life its own page: Work, Home, Side project. Big outcomes become projects with a handful of tasks each.
Open your Today view and choose just three tasks that would make today a good day. Everything else can wait. Finishing three beats starting ten.
Repeat this reset once a week, Sunday evening works well. Ten minutes of tidying keeps your list light, and your head clear.
